If we were to blindfold you and then reveal this finished project in Geneseo, you would have a really REALLY hard time guessing if you were in a new build project or a remodel. The finished spaces are so fresh you would think the whole home is new, but it is in fact a remodel. The couple who remodeled this home happen to be very important keystones to the Village Home Stores family. They know a thing or two about our industry, and what they wanted for their dream spaces. When we say this property was completely gutted and remodeled, we mean completely. Every surface, and every element was replaced or reworked in this home. The result is a stunning and clean new design and flow to the spaces. We can’t wait to show you around so let’s dive into the open concept kitchen design.
Kitchen Remodel Before and After
The new kitchen design is an L-shape layout with the back door entrance at the center. A large dual-level island divides the kitchen from the front living room space. The original kitchen included walls to divide this section of the home into a dining area, a front room, and the kitchen at the back of the house. Now everything is one open and bright space.
The cabinetry in the new kitchen is from our Koch Classic line in the “Bristol” door and the “Ivory” painted finish. Bristol has truly found its way to the front row over this past year and is now one of our best-selling doorstyles. It is a flat-panel door with one added inside molding detail on the rails and stiles of the frames. If you are looking for a door that is affordable and versatile for many styles of spaces, ask a designer from Village Home Stores to see a Bristol sample door. Press play below to take a short video tour of this finished space:
If you visit our showroom on State Street in Geneseo, we have a full kitchen display installed in this “Bristol” door. The soffits are now gone from the kitchen and the new cabinetry extends all the way to the ceiling adding a lot of excellent storage.
Another Tall, Shallow Pantry? Yes Please!
This section of the kitchen could not extend the standard base cabinet depth into the high-traffic walkway. Instead, shallow cabinets create a coffee bar area and tall pantry storage area. Two kitchen remodel stories in a row with a tall, shallow pantry cabinet? You bet! A few days ago we shared another Geneseo home on the blog with two tall pantry cabinets. And here is another excellent shallow storage space example for you.
The coffee bar area is a landing zone for items with a drawer and countertop surface. Because the countertop is not as deep as normal, the homeowner put the coffeepot on a slide-out shelf. How clever is that?! Now you can slide the unit forward to prep the machine for use. The pantry cabinet is tall and wide. You can fit so much into a pantry cabinet including shelf space right at your eye level. This cabinet section is deep enough to fit dry goods, canisters, and even some small appliances.
Cambria Quartz Surfaces in the Kitchen
The countertop surfaces in this kitchen are from our Cambria Quartz line. The “Ironsbridge” design combines many tones of whites and off whites with warm gray patterns. Instead of bold high-contrasting veins in the quartz, the taupe/gray details are in wider sections and more subtle in contrast. A standard eased edge was applied to the main kitchen but the sill piece at the island has a decorative Ogee edge applied. How stunning is this edge and the color of the quartz? We love it!
A fantastic neutral compliment to the colors in the Cambria counters is found in the kitchen wall tile selected. 3″ x 12″ tiles from Daltile’s “Modern Hearth” series in the “Mantle Piece” color is the perfect choice. The tile is installed on the sink and coffee station walls as well as on the wall surface between the kitchen island counter and the bar-height sill piece. This island design with a tall wall section. makes it possible to use a freestanding range with a back control center, or a slide-in style with front controls like you see here.
Microwave Drawer in Kitchen Island
The microwave in the island is a drawer unit that is 24″ wide. Microwave drawers are extremely popular in both remodel and new construction kitchen designs. They allow you a built-in look below the counter with an easy to load and unload setup and limit the need to bend over to operate controls. This model from our Sharp line includes a flat panel flip out control board. The look is clean and blends very well with many brands of appliance packages.
“Slide in” Range in the Kitchen Island
The Whirlpool range in this kitchen has an electric cooktop and a large-capacity (6.4 cu. ft.) oven with True Convection features. What is “True” convection? True Convection cooking helps you cook foods faster and more consistently by using a third heating element surrounding a fan at the back of the oven. This heat and fan help to distribute hot air evenly over, under, and around your food. And if the word convection makes you a bit intimated, this model (and many of our convection models) includes a Convection Conversion feature. Your oven will do the math for you when you need to convert traditional recipes for convection cooking. It automatically adjusts cooking times and temperatures for you. Plus having that fan and heating element in the back gives you one of our favorite features: Rapid Preheat! Rapid Preheat uses all the heating elements and that rear fan to heat the oven quickly. This range also includes our favorite AquaLift® Self-Cleaning Technology. Shop this model and many more online with us at villagehomestores.com
The refrigerator in this kitchen design is a full-depth French Door model that we surrounded with cabinet panels and a deep cabinet above. The dishwasher selected is our best-selling new KitchenAid 3-rack model. This unit is quiet at just 44 dba and can fit so much inside. Check out a full video tour of this dishwasher interior here on our TikTok page.
COREtec Luxury Vinyl Flooring
The flooring surfaces in this kitchen and the entire open concept upstairs is also another bestseller. COREtec luxury vinyl flooring allows you the look of wood but in a durable, waterproof, pet-proof, kid-proof, your neighbor just spilled a glass of wine-proof surface. Not only is it a quality material with excellent performance… it looks great! We have so many styles to select from. This home showcases a color called “Lanier Oak”. Did you know you can “try on” COREtec surfaces in your own spaces virtually with us? Tap the orange circle in the right corner of this blog page to get started.
Another surface worth mentioning is just across the room from the new kitchen. This fireplace surround has been installed with our brick-look New York deco tiles. This is the “Broadway” color, and we did not include any city names in this installation. Stop by the Village Home Stores showroom to see a floor of this tile installed in a lighter color and with some city/location bricks blended in.
Custom Window Shades from Village
We also installed custom Honeycomb shades from our Lafayette line in the Catalina Manor House style. Press play below to see these shades in motion:
Not only are they motorized with a remote control, but they also have a “top down, bottom up” feature. You can control the shade location throughout the day to adjust for sun protection and privacy as needed. We added motorization options like this remote-control window shown in the video. Ask a window treatment expert at Village Home Stores how you can get the ultimate in style and convenience to dress the windows in your home.
Down the hall from the kitchen area is a bathroom that is now home to a centrally located laundry area. What a dream! A pair of Maytag front load laundry is right at the entrance behind the pocket door. Cabinetry and a hanging rod above complete the look. A shower, stool, and vanity area with linen cabinet plus this laundry area make it an accessible and versatile use of the space. The cabinets are installed with the same Koch “Bristol” door from the kitchen using the “Taupe” painted finish.
